How this started
I am a junior high school teacher in Nova Scotia. Over the years, I have noticed more boys in my classes worried about their appearance - mostly about how the girls saw them. This is not new, but there is an increasing amount of talk about muscle mass and having a specific body type. A quick Google search on "male body image" produces 98.2 million results on articles, journals and blogs discussing this very issue. However, many schools and outside agencies continue to focus on female body image. While this is important, there needs to be more done to support boys as they move through adolescence and into adulthood. It is my hope that this site will shed some light on current concerns and ways to promote positive body image among boys and young adult men.
